We chose to celebrate our wedding day at Senator John Heinz History Museum because when Rachel visited the location while directing a show in Pittsburgh she was immediately moved by how the entire space felt like the pure Pittsburgh boy she loves. It was full of history and collections of honored treasures of his home town as well as a playfulness both of us have built together.
Rachel walked in that day and felt it was the only place she wanted to marry Joey in.
It is quintessentially Pittsburgh in a heightened way.
Rachel and Joey and met in college at Point Park University. He was a stage management major and she was a musical theater major. They didn’t date in college but were close friends. We always confided in one another about our work, our friendships, or dreams as artists, all through school.
Years later Rachel was coming home from Grad school on the N train in New York and she heard a familiar voice. It was Joey you guys!!!!
They went out for whiskey that night and half way through what they both weren’t sure was a date or not, realized they did’t really want to leave one another.
Both are very passionate about using storytelling to make the world a better place. She is a Theater Director and he is a fantastic artist and they help each other in their work to try to make the world better every day.
Their wedding was based on the warmth that comes from nostalgia, both remembering your time as a child and bringing that love of make believe into your adult life. The entire reception room was curated to feel like a magical land out of a folk tale. The couple had a treasure map that led guests to their seats and each table was named after books from their childhood.
The ceremony is based in honoring our shared and separate traditions, cultivating community and bringing different backgrounds together to create unity, peace and love.
Rachel and Joey wanted love, above all else, to be the most important thing portrayed in their wedding. They wanted everyone to feel warm and cared for. They wanted their wedding to be a symbol of inclusivity. They want everyone to celebrate not just our love but love, period.
They want to cherish the one day where everyone in their lives that they love can come together and mingle and eat well and dance all night long!
What an honest way to feel about your wedding day. We were so glad to be a part of it. Not only were they super creative but they were fun too!
From boutonniers made out of lego’s, to the People of Honor and Best Bro’s running down the aisle acting out “Somebody’s Getting Married” from the Muppets, everything about their celebration was a treat.
